I'm an atheist (bordering on agnostic) and I'm interested in learning about paganism, particularly neopaganism. I've looked at various websites but I still can't find a simple explanation of the basics of the different types of paganism and their beliefs so I was wondering if someone could reccomend me some websites or even books (easily available in the UK) on the subject, since most of the websites/books I've seen seem to be written for Pagans themselves.

I suppose I have a slight interest in becoming a Pagan but I'm not sure what kind is for me. I'm not so interested in Wicca but would prefer perhaps some kind of Druidism or even occultism. I would still like to remain an atheist and treat any deities/magic as metaphors, is this possible? I'm going through a tough point in my life and think something like this would help to kill the stress and and clear my mind, I suppose.
Perhaps I got I bit mixed up. I am mostly an atheist who believes mostly in the big bang theory/evolution but doesn't completely dismiss the possibility of there being some kind of creator who who does not want us to worship him. I realise now that agnostic probably wasn't the right term to use, sorry.

I guess that more or less sums it up but, in short, I've been reading online and have found volumes of information concerning Wicca. However, the majority of this information strikes as either biased or controversial against and to other writings on Wicca. If possible, I'm trying to find solid information to study to try to become Wiccan.

P.S.: If anyone would be willing to I.M. me on the subject, I'm always on yahoo messenger but am usually only really here during the morning hours or overnight.

P.P.S.: Thanks for any and all help =D
Not sure if I'm looking for solitary or a coven yet. Also hoping to find local groups or covens I might could speak with or a way to find said local covens.
To AmyB, omg(s) thank you, thank you! the link you put on the very last line has given more than I could have hoped for in learning (I'm ex-Baptist >.< )
Blessed Be to all of you, and "thanks" cannot begin to describe it!

to become a high priestess in wicca do you have to have 3 years of training if u aren't in a coven? i know that some people believe that u aren't actually a practitioner unless ur part of a coven, i find this belief stupid.. im a solitary and im just as witchy/ Wiccan as any coven member
its not about adding titles and its not about leadership its about starting my own coven if i want to and about the life path of a Wiccan and how to choose a specialty in the Craft if you so choose.

I am very interested in becoming a practicing Wicca but as i understand most wiccans are raised with that religion and so its easy to learn, ive read all about self dedication ceremonies and have alot of info about becoming a Wicca but can anyone tell me if there is a community or such that i can join for help and advice so that i can move forward, i feel like im stuck right now.

thanks.
id like to point out that i wrote wicca twice where i should have written wiccan, sorry, dont think im uneducated, just really bad at typing :)

Did you become Wiccan when you were underage?
Did you tell you parents?
How did they react?
Just curious.

Ok so its sorta weird asking this but I always loved reading books about spells and Witches not to become one but just to see the history and the way they do it.

Well....Even though I really love reading those books I always stop myself on almost every page and wonder is this stuff for real. When they started talking about different types of magic I thought to myself Is there really Magic. I love to books but I have decided that the only way to figure it out is to try Rumor has it my family did have an actual Wicca which might be why im so Drawn to this subject

Ok so this is what I need I need to know what you guys think of Witch's and and Magic does it Exist? or is it fake? I need a site or some sorta beginners spell that I could perform on my own. Im basically doing this to research Not to become an actual witch.

Please don't say things like its against the bible I have read the bible many many times and I know that

If I have any info wrong please say so but be polite about it.

I have always been so interested in witch craft and I know my great great grandma was a wicca (yes I know they are not the same thing) I always wanted to do a spell because I would love to learn how I become one with nature and be able to make things happen I always knew I am special because I have dreams that come true and more so if someone could point out a site that can help me learn I would love that thanks

I'm extremely interested in Wicca and I wanted to learn more about the people who are Wiccan. So I'm going to ask you guys about some of your experiences. :)

Why did you decide to become a Wiccan? How long have you been a Wiccan? Are you part of a coven or are you solitary?

I have so many questions but I guess I'll just ask these. :)

If you are against Wicca please don't answer.

I'd like detailed answers to this, not one-line "Because I like Vampires"...!

Firstly, I've never read the "Twilight" series, and I never intend to.
I have read the synopsis' and reviews, and it quickly became obvious the first books are riped-off from / 'inspired' by the 90s teen series "Night World" by L.J. Smith {she really started the 'soul-mate' idea}. Plus, it seems Ms. Mayer writes like an idealising 17-year-old.

So, why do you like or dislike the books?

What are / were your favourite teen-fiction or 'Young Adult' books / series in the 'Fantasyish' genre? Favourites aimed at 18+ / 20s? And why? {and do you still own them?}
* remember, some books aimed at 'Young Adults' are written well enough to still be enjoyed by those of us in our late 20s and beyond.

Mine :

"Night World" by L.J. Smith [series - 10 books . still waiting for #10]
Reason: Engaging characters, variety, realism ~ no one got a 'perfect' life. In fact, my favourite, recurring character didn't even get to be with his soul-mate.
Own: I read at the time of publication, sold my copies long ago, but may re-buy or re-read before #10 release.

"Blood and Chocolate" by Annette Curtis Clause
Reason: Finally, a good, original werewolf novel! Interesting characters, a credible plot, and a good resolution {unfortunately, I hear the film adaptation was appalling}.
Own: Very much so ~ on my bookshelf!

"Wicca" by Cate Tiernan {series - 15 books.} [called "Sweep" in the US]
Reason: A rather unique plot, very well written, gripping charaters. Very intense.
Own: I was addicted to these books at the time, but a few months after reading the final entry I sold them. They are good, but I didn't think I'd re-read them.

"Kitty Norville" by Carrie Vaughn {series - 7 books .6 published}
Reason: One for older readers, as it doesn't focus on romance. Unusual premise, good characters, humourous.
Own: Yep. Series still great at book #4, and about to read book #5...

"Dresden Files" by Jim Butcher {series - 12 books . 11 published}
Reason: Definately for the over 18s, or those with a high reading age. Wonderfully written, engaging characters, *humour!*, credibility.
Own: Absolutely! Read books #5-10 addictively in a few days, waiting for #11 in p/b.

All the "Tortall" books by Tamora Pierce {series - 3 quartets, 1 duo, 1 trio}
Reason: Aimed at young adults, but appeals to 20-somethings too due to the plots, characters, and style of writing. These books treat the reader as an intelligent individual.
Own: Still collecting :)

BQ: for anyone from R&P {or others} :
Songs about Vampires, Werewolves, Witches, Ghosts, etc...
~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~
Colour Me Fun :
"True Blood" starts here in the UK tomorrow night, and I've got blank videos by the recorder!
Interestingly, Stephen Moyer played a vampire in a 1998 British TV series called "Ultraviolet"...

The TDs are not from me folks ~ the purpose of my main question was to hear opinions, not to critise you for having them.
~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~
Ziplizard :
I hadn't even heard of the "The Southern Vampire Mysteries" until a couple of weeks ago when I read an article about "True Blood" {I'm in the UK, with only 5 TV channels!}.
Other than the vampires in Carrie Vaughn's "Kitty Norville" series, I haven't read any vamp fiction since "Anita Blake", which I was terribly let down by after book #10, and stopped reading {I sided with Richard!}.
~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~
Well, I just saw the first episode of "True Blood".
It's not perfect {some holes there}, but it's pretty good ~ certainly entertaining. And it's what Vampire fiction should be {if you're over 16} : Funny, Sexy / Saucy, Supernatural, and a bit Dangerous...

I am looking for a journal to write my thoughts down in as I start my journey into Wicca, one that might become my own Book of Shadows. I really don't know where to begin to look for one. I would like to find one that has some meaning on it. Not just a plain store bought sprial.. Any places I can check out?
Thank you everyone who answered! I found a journal that I love love love! Its leather and dark brown with the tree of live hand tooled on it and very earthy. Thank you ebay. It is kinda on the pricey side, ranging about $70 after shipping and handling. But it has the ability to last even after it's full and it's something I can see myself handing down.

I'm taking the SAT next week and I'm not nervous but it's really important for me to pass so I can get into a good college. I'm just starting to become Wiccan, and I want to know if there's a spell, necklace charm or such that i can cast or order online that will help me. Please send me the link if you know something I can order that will help or tell me about a spell and what I need to do. Thank you.
I've been studying really hard so please don't tell me to just study more.

I did some reading about it and thought it could be something i can try so how to i start

Did the earliest forms of Wicca include any new beliefs or are all they all taken from various religions and beliefs around the world?

I am studying Wicca to possibly become Wiccan but want to make sure Wicca is right for me and not another Pagan religion.
No where did I bash Wicca; read the question.
Making sure that all the beliefs in Wicca are borrowed from the older religions and beliefs; and that nothing was new but compiled. I would say no to Wicca then most likely.

People who believe in God only please

I was home one day and i jus got this feeling and then i became interested in wicca for some reason. I do believe in god without a doubt and I pity the people who dont so what do you think can I practice Wicca? and If so how do I go about doing it

Hi I have been doing some serious thought about becoming a witch i have a friend who is a witch and do not worry about me doing it just because she is a wiccan (i asked myself the same question and took an hour to thing about it)... I have been some really good reading about becoming wiccan and what it is all about and i'm just wondering what you do (I know that it is about what you think is right but) i'm just wondering what other witches do. Like how your alter is set up, and stuff like that ... don't worry i'm not trying to copy off of your ideas but it is hard for me to get a basic grasp on wicca and i'm just reaching out for what other people do. :) plz answer

I'm interested in becoming one, but I know virtually nothing, is there anyone who is and can explain or give me advice?

Ok,im 13.I kind of want to learn wicca or become a apprentice to a full witch or Priestess so i can learn more about the beautiful craft(if i can). Also people say that i should not do wicca because i could make a lot of mistakes.

A site that helps me to understand being a Wicca in a more down graded version, so that like a teen can understand what is going on. Becase i am really interested in becoming a wiccan, but the book i brought is very hard to understand [It uses big words i've never herd of lol]

And what is a good Wiccan name starting with j?
Thanks guys. :)
Blessed Be.

I know most of us used to be Christian, but when I learned about wicca all of the mythology about nature spirits and the fae realm just felt so real. And the god and the goddess seem so much more believable to me than God and Jesus and all of the old testament stories. Eventually, I just couldn't actually believe in the Catholic god, and just sort of "hoped" it was all real, but never really felt any evidence for it.

But I have encountered these nature spirits from celtic mythology, so I have my own reason to believe in them.

So, just a question. What makes you interested in your branch of neo-paganism?

i am really interested in becoming a wiccan. so far i have read the book called Wicca a Guide To The Solitary Practitioner and have got an altar set up and everything you need for in.

But how do i become a true wiccan now?

..

How can I become a Wiccan and learn witchcraft online?

I have checked many bookstores in the area I live but I couldn't find any books about Wicca. So, the only ways to learn witchcraft for me are free e-books or videos/articles on the internet. Where can I find those?

Thanks for your time. :)

i think i want to get back into Witchcraft though im not sure if what i want to be a part of it witch craft and if it isnt i want to know whats its called.

i suppose its kinda like wicca.
because i want to have rituals and do spells to creative positive energies..
and i always thought magikal meditation was the most relaxing.
but im not sure if its wicca i want to be a part of. because i dont like how alot of teenagers do it to rebel when i want to do it because it makes me feel comfertable...

so could i get some peoples opinions?

10 points to best answer..
well its just irritating that people think i do do it has a fad. and wicca seems to be somewhat of a fad... thats why i was thinking of just witchcraft has it seems more basic but im not sure.

I am trying to learn about Wicca and did have someone that was answering questions for me but she has since become too busy and her replies have gotten few and far between. I am not in a position to hire a Wiccan teacher or join a coven at this time. So, I was wondering if anyone could suggest a website or somewhere that I can find a Wiccan Pen pal or someone that is willing to answer my questions and assist me in learning Wicca.
I am reading books, watching videos, and reading articles but when I have a question about the book, video, or article I would like someone that I can ask about it. But I cannot afford to hire a teacher right now.

Polling data from the 2001 ARIS study, described below, indicate that:

81% of American adults identify themselves with a specific religion: 76.5% (159 million) of Americans identify themselves as Christian. This is a major slide from 86.2% in 1990. Identification with Christianity has suffered a loss of 9.7 percentage points in 11 years -- about 0.9 percentage points per year. This decline is identical to that observed in Canada between 1981 and 2001. If this trend has continued, then: at the present time (2007-MAY), only 71% of American adults consider themselves Christians
The percentage will dip below 70% in 2008
By about the year 2042, non-Christians will outnumber the Christians in the U.S.

52% of Americans identified themselves as Protestant.
24.5% are Roman Catholic.
1.3% are Jewish.
0.5% are Muslim, followers of Islam.
The fastest growing religion (in terms of percentage) is Wicca -- a Neopagan religion that is sometimes referred to as Witchcraft. Numbers of adherents went from 8,000 in 1990 to 134,000 in 2001. Their numbers of adherents are doubling about every 30 months. 4,5 Wiccans in Australia have a very similar growth pattern, from fewer than 2,000 in 1996 to 9,000 in 2001. 10 In Canada, Wiccans and other Neopagans showed the greatest percentage growth of any faith group. They totaled 21,080 members in 1991, an increase of 281% from 1990.

14.1% do not follow any organized religion. This is an unusually rapid increase -- almost a doubling -- from only 8% in 1990. There are more Americans who say they are not affiliated with any organized religion than there are Episcopalians, Methodists, and Lutherans taken together. 6
The unaffiliated vary from a low of 3% in North Dakota to 25% in Washington State. "The six states with the highest percentage of people saying they have no religion are all Western states, with the exception of Vermont at 22%." 6

A USA Today/Gallup Poll in 2002-JAN showed that almost half of American adults appear to be alienated from organized religion. If current trends continue, most adults will not call themselves religious within a few years. Results include:

About 50% consider themselves religious (down from 54% in 1999-DEC)
About 33% consider themselves "spiritual but not religious" (up from 30%)
About 10% regard themselves as neither spiritual or religious. 6

The U.S. losing its Protestant majority?:
Prior to 1492, the entire population of what was to become the United States of America and Canada followed about 500 forms of Native American Spirituality. With the influx of immigrants from Europe and the genocide of the native population, the U.S. became predominately Protestant Christian by the time of the Revolutionary War. The percentage of Protestants in the U.S. has been diluted because of:

Immigration from Roman Catholic countries,
More recent immigration from the Middle East and Asia, and
The rise in numbers of Agnostics, Atheists, Humanists and other non-theists.

From 1972 to 1993, the General Social Survey of the National Opinion Research Center found that Protestants constituted about 63% of the population. This declined to 52% in 2002. Protestants are believed to have slipped to a minority position sometime between 2004 and 2006 for the first time since the year 1776. 11

"Respondents were defined as Protestant if they said they were members of a Protestant denomination, such as Episcopal Church or Southern Baptist Convention. The category included members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and members of independent Protestant churches."

However, the data may be deceiving. Some subjects simply reported themselves as "Christians" and were not counted as Protestants since they were not affiliated with a Protestant denomination. 12

About people who walk away from organized religion:
Rodney Stark, a professor of sociology at the University of Washington and a co-author of "Acts of Faith: Explaining the Human Side of Religion" commented:

"People who believe in God — and they do — who pray — and they do — are not secular, they are just unchurched. They've never been to church and, in many cases, their parents didn't go either."

Mark Galli, managing editor of the Evangelical magazine Christianity Today, said:

"It's a cliché now to call institutional religion 'oppressive, patriarchal, out of date and out of touch.' So what else is new? I feel sorry for those people who don't think there's anything greater than themselves. It must feel like a lonely and frightening world for them. Lone-ranger spirituality is not conducive to taking us to the depths God designed us to go. It leaves out the communal dimension of faith. If you leave out the irritations, frustrations and joy that community entails, you miss something about God."

About religious data:
Reliable religious information is hard to come by.

Some religions count every person that has been bapt

I am studying Wicca and am determined to become a Wiccan. I've studied and such, though I still have more ahead of me, and I want to determine my craft name, as many Wiccans do. I've thought of a lot of things, and I've got so many ideas. I try to use numerology because that has been mentioned very often on the searches I've done on craft names. I've tried a lot of things, but after a while, they just don't seem right.
Are there any Wiccans out there who had similar trouble? If so, could you help me?
okay. Thank you, Red Bean. I will try to do that, though meditation is not my thing. haha I'm only 14, there is still time to try new things. =]
I appreciate the other three answers so far. You guys, though did not provide very lengthy answers, did provide some sort of insight. Thank you. I will try to use all of your tips.

I have been studying Wicca for a few months now and would like to make a cult. I haven't been able to find a step by step way to becoming Wiccan so I turned to Yahoo Answers to help me.

Ahh, now comes the fun part.. details..

To explain where I am coming from; my mate is Wiccan, I am Old Catholic.
-insert dramatic music here-
No, but really...
We both love each other immensely, and both have a great amount of respect for the others religious choices.. I myself very nearly converted to Wicca before ever knowing him and then decided that I still firmly held on to my Christian beliefs, though on certain things I will lapse into Wicca.

I have to wonder though...
How would such a relationship work in marriage?
Honestly, I could very easily see myself spending my life with him, and he has said the same with me.
However, I fully understand how there could be difficulties, and I accept with open arms the fact that they would have to be solved with care and respect for each other.
I am prepared for that.

Although, there is one concern on my part that I am trying to figure out how it could be worked around..
This concern would be with raising children..
How does one raise them without interfering in their religious choice?
I would wish my children to seek out their paths, not become comfortable in the lack thereof, but I wish to respect his beliefs also and not shove mine down their throats.

...Any suggestions?

-Note: I asked this before in religion / spirituality, but I believe it should actually belong here... Not sure though, to be honest.

or anything that has to do with that matter. I am just drawn to the whole mystery of it in general, ever since I was a little girl. I would like to learn the principles and what I need to do in order to master these practices. Maybe I can become a skilled witch someday.

I am interested in things such as tarot cards, astrology, psychics, ouiji boards, ghosts/spirits, mystical/mythological creatures, pretty much anything to do with the paranormal.
I don't know. This just really fascinates me and maybe this is my calling. I am just drawn to it like a bee is drawn to honey you could say.

What my question pretty much is, is there anyone who can tell me what I need to do to become a witch or learn some spells; things of that nature. Is there anyone who can train or help me. If so, thanks in Advance.

<3

I've been interested in Wicca for years but haven't done much about it because I don't know where to start. I don't know anyone that practices it, where do you look for people like that, who don't seem like complete weirdos?

I am deeply interested in becoming religiously tied. What in esscence is Wicca about? Being attuned the nature? If being attuned to natur is not wicca, then what would be?
Tuffcook- I knee only too well some people would obviously come and tell me I was going to he'll, I've been through thisbefore.

ThNks for he article

IM really curious as to who would stay with there religion. Or if anyone would be phase spiritually by it.

I was christan until i was old enough to realize i like to make my own belief system, so i tried a few other religions like wicca until eventually i just became atheist. I believe in ghosts because ive had paranormal activity thought my 16 years and so if the spirit world was backed up by scientific evidence i would be fine. But would you? that's the REEAL question :P

1. what are some of the basics and fundamentals of Wicca?
2. who are the deities?
3. what are some religious symbols? (example, the cross for Christianity)
4. how does one become a Wiccan?
5. are there any religious holidays/events?
6. who are examples of famous Wiccans?

i've looked up some of this stuff, but i need a refresher. i've become interested in the religion and am considering to become a part of it.
thank you all very much. this is very useful information. i'm going to study this religion. i've gained respect for it from what i have read. i actually first heard of it by reading sully erna's "the paths we choose". i love nature and this seems to be a very peaceful religion. it fits me

I'm thinking about becoming wiccan, but I'd really like to hear other wiccans and their thoughts on the religion.... Also anyone know where to get these or how to make them? (In Canada)
-Broom
-Pure Water
-Chalice (preferably metal)
-Robe
-Natron podwer
-Athem
-Penticle (should i get one to wear instead?)
-Bolline
-Bell
I know it's a lot to answer but it would really help me, thank you!

i'm just a beginner when it comes to this, so does anyone know any websites that could be useful to me?
thanks

Well it sort of goes like this:

I started liking him in november last year; we had only known each other for about 2 months. On around about the 1st november I finally let slip that I liked him to one of the librarians. Then on the 8th november, I, being an idiot let slip to him that the librarians knew my secret that I was hiding from him.

He then proceeded to the library to find out what I was hiding from him and she told him and asked him if he would consider going out with me. He told her he would think about it and returned to the cyber cafe with a smile on his face.

He thought about it in a period of two days, so on the saturday he gave me an answer; he didn't want to go out with me.

However he still kept on showing all the signs to liking me; he would always sit next to me in class no matter whether there was a spare seat around the room other than next to me; he would follow me everywhere I went around school; he'd stare at me and as soon as I would look properly he would look away suddenly.

Then one of my friends told me that he had the hots for me, (apparantly he became over protective of me more than anyone else) - so another two of my friends went up to the sixth form centre and confronted him about it, which of course he denied.

Then the problem is it got around the school and no one would let the fact go. I think that I reached the final straw when I got one of my friends to ask him at tykwondo if he liked me more than a best friend.

After Christmas I finally decided to let it go and well then he got his girlfriend, (on february 14th, would you believe it). That's when I started to feel jealous again.

The wierd thing is when I quit wicca, which was about 4 months later and told him I liked him again, he started to show all the signs, (despite he's current girlfriend). I never got a 'I don't like you' this time or a ' I like you too', so I am unsure if he ever did like me or it was just me liking him and not being liked back.
btw - he's 17 and so am I
we were 16 at the time

I remember first learning about Wicca and other forms of neo-paganism back in the 90s and finding out about how much discrimination their practitioners faced. Now that Wicca and neo-paganism in general have become more mainstream, do their practitioners find that they now face less prejudice and discrimination?

If someone wants to become a witch how do they do it? Not the wand waving Harry Potter kind, the real nature kind like ones from Wicca.
What are some simple beginners spells?
I always thought about becoming one but I'm not sure.

Do you think that the "Playgans" and Goth look is starting to fade out or is it still strong?

Do you think that since Wicca is becoming more established as a religion and not just a fad that all the glam is starting to decrease?

No offense is meant toward true Gothic Wiccans by this question.
Wicca has been around before the 90s, I know this already. The fad I am refering to is from the 90s decade.

First off, have you seen how the media and Hollywood depicts Pagans? And I know a bunch of you Christians who read that will think "who cares? Pagans are Satanists anyway." For one thing, a Satanist is not Pagan and a Pagan does not worship Satan nor do they believe in Satan. Calling a Pagan a Satanist is like saying an Atheist worships God. Just not possible to worship something you don't believe in. Its ignorance. For those of you who don't know, I myself am Pagan and feel that if I can educate as many Christians who do not know, it will quell the Pagan-Christian "war" that sometimes goes on when a Pagan wears their pentacle on the street and meets a hardcore Christian (as I call them).
Pagans are not evil in any way. They laugh, they dance, they have families, they cry, they bleed if you cut them, they have jobs... they're all around you. Our only desire is to be treated as a human and for you to treat us as a human. Don't come at us with bible verses. I was raised Christian before I converted to a happier faith (in my own opinion. Some of you may be happy in yours. That is your choice) and I know that the bible is not meant to be used as a weapon against others. Its a teaching tool. So when you hold up signs saying a bible verse or recite one to another person, do you really think that a God who supposedly loves all his children regardless would really want them fighting merely because one child worships a different way than the usual Christian? Pagans worship a Goddess and a God. Normally as two halves to a whole. Isn't that what marriage states? A man and woman join together in "holy matrimony" to become one being and work together as one being with love and devotion for each other. So how could something like that be evil and Satanic? If you look at the Nazi symbol, it is the reverse to a symbol that stands for love, peace and tranquility (I believe it is a Buddhist symbol). And our pentacle stands for the five elements: Air, Water, Fire, Earth and Spirit. It is a symbol of our Goddess. And like the Nazis did, Satanists took that symbol and turned it upside down. They reversed it. I have met some Satanists, and they do not worship Satan either. From what I was told, they worship the darkness within themselves which may be where the idea of them worshiping Satan came from. I am not Satanist, so I may be wrong on that aspect. But regardless, a Pagan is not someone to be feared. Christians, your own religion is based on the path your ancestors from Europe followed. Just as I do. Christmas was created to be like Yule. If you look in the unchanged scriptures (which Jehovah's Witnesses say they hold translated into English though not completely well but as well as you can from Hebrew to English) it even states it. You can look at the Pagan practices for Yule. Pagans decorate living trees uncut from the Earth and place decorations on it, usually something helpful like pine cones smothered in peanut butter and sprinkled with seeds for birds. Spring Equinox is Easter, and Samhain is Halloween. Even the cross is the Pagan symbol for fertility. The reason for this is because back in the day, Celtic Pagans were very difficult to convert and so the Christians who were there with that purpose decided to reach a mutual agreement. They changed up the practices slightly so Pagans would have an easier time converting. They would still be doing their worshiping holidays while under a different religion. And as a lot of you should know, Paganism is older than Christianity so you can't claim that Pagans took it from Christianity. And those who bring up Gardner bringing it here in the 1950s, that is true. But it is true ONLY for Wicca. Paganism is an older practice following the older rituals which survived after the Burning Times. Examples being Celtic, Greek, Norse, etc. Wicca takes those practices and mixes them up. Wicca and Paganism are not the same, though the practices are similar. And we both use "magic" though those who practice can choose not to use magic. We are a positive, enlightening people. Even the word witchcraft is derived from an old Norse word meaning "path of the wise". Back in the day, a "witch" was needed in every village because her knowledge on herbs for healing was the modern medicine of that time. So please, when you see a Pagan next time... leave them alone. Or if you can manage, smile at them because their faith is the faith your ancestors practiced. We only have one desire from those of other paths: to not have your belief pressed onto us as we don't press ours onto you. Thank you, and I hope those of you who read this found it enlightening.
Oh yea, I forgot. People are lazy and don't like to read... =_=
Greenshittalker, I would love to know your sources. And two, you're wrong. Oops, I forgot. People like you don't like to look beyond what the church tells you. By the way, I already heard all the BS about sacrifice and knew the Celts did human sacrifice and the reasons for it. Thus the reason for religious evolution. DUH. Wow, you're an ignorant prick huh?

ok, so i want to start doing some uh paganism, but i dont know what path to choose. i want to learn how to do charms and hexes and sheilding myself from bad things, and so on. i was thinking wicca which is what my mom was. but i dont think i want to do that because white wicca is just really not me. and the black wicca or whatever seems evil and i dont want to hurt anyone out of my own needs or desires. can i learn how to charm and hex items and such? please tell me what form of paganism i am describing. and anyone who comes in here ranting about christianity and trying to convert me will be flagged. thanks.
